When I read books, words will stay with me. “Panem et Circenses” in the Hunger Games series has stayed with me and really fits what is happening in Onondaga County.
“Panem et Circenses” translates into ‘Bread and Circuses.’ The writer was saying that in return for full bellies and entertainment, the people had given up their political responsibilities and therefore their power.
Republicans politicians in Onondaga County are spending over 86 million of our taxpayer money on an expensive aquarium that we will have to maintain for decades. Giving the people entertainment (which we have said we don’t want) instead of services we need like increasing mental health services, building healthy & affordable housing, expanding public transportation and the list goes on.
Remember this November 7th and Vote in Every Election!
Local elections are known for low turnout which is why our current representatives are not listening to us. Make them listen by voting them out this November.
